Pumpkin Pie 101
Dear Naomilog reader,

Its that time of year again, and I have started the testing process for Thanksgiving pie recipes. I am sure you have all wondered “what does real pumpkin pie taste like?”. Its one of those age old questions, and I bet less than %1 of you have even had a pumpkin pie made from an actual pumpkin. Its something very few of us get a chance to enjoy.
So this year I decided to treat my family to a real pumpkin pie. Before I divulge information about this wonderful REAL pumpkin pie, let me first give you a little background information on all those fake pumpkin pies you have all been eating. It turns out that you the naomilog reader along with many unfortunate victims have been lied to all these years. I am here to inform you all the frozen pumpkin pie along with canned pumpkin isn’t really pumpkin at all but it is butternut squash. Now while they are all members of the Curcurbitaceae, (the wonderful food family which brings you melons, cucumbers and squash) they are not the same plant.
Upon doing some research (and after preparing my pie which now sits in the oven) I learned that butternut squash makes for a better pie. So much for pumpkin pie then. I feel as if all my efforts have gone to waste. But maybe I should taste my pie before I make that decision.

Disclaimer: I have been known to leave out key ingredients such as eggs, so please take cooking advice from me at your own risk.
